A King's Beginning

Kyōdo the lion walked alone, always so lonely.
He was strong, too strong, burning too brightly,
At first some lions would linger nearby,
As though they were friends, always a lie.
The pride would play a short while,
Then say, Oh but we were beguiled!
The pride wouldn't see the source of flame.
They thought it was too intense, he was to blame.

Left so many times, confused and broke,
Kyōdo began crying, like rain he would soak.
Hyenas in disguise, that's what they were,
Preying on strength, the fire in his purr.
Feeding on his kills, borrowing his might,
abusing his strength, for they were slight.
Once they had tamed him, laughing they'd run,
Oh but bandits, they crushed hearts for fun.

Then one day he woke, a whisper at his side,
Lo, your soul burns with so much inside,
Look deep within, see your soul dancing?
You burn so intensely, the heat isn't glancing.
Fire turned blue, stop, feel the heat,
If you can do this, you won't see defeat!
Learn to feel and dance in your fire,
Hyenas fears will then be set afire.

Soon after that day, a new pride came along,
Burning more brightly, Kyōdo'd become strong.
And learning to temper the heat exposed,
With the new pride, he began his repose.

Sabishii's Heart

Sabishii was sure as he flew with a friend
Never would he lose his flight again,
Midnight's spirit was large enough to lend,

But some blue's are not meant to meld
They stand alone no matter how you weld.

Midnight was gone, only a second of bliss
Sabishii's heart knew something was amiss
But love is most stubborn and he was no wimp
He flew the world over til his wings went limp.

Though hurting and alone, Sabishii's heart grew
His wings now stronger, he's a deeper blue.

Now he flies solo beside his family's herd,
But when he's alone, hoping unheard,
His heart sheds painful dragon tears.

Midnight lasts only 1 second of 86 thousand,
But a dragon's heart loves forever.

Masquerade

The journey seemed like a year to get to the masquerade, but there it was. A formidable looking castle built upon a rock.
I climbed the steps to get to the ballroom; each step draining more than I had to give, then suddenly, there was no way to hide. The last pillar I'd counted on had disappeared and I was there, there in the courtyard holding the mask still in my hand.
The onlookers saw the look on my face before I had time to put the joker's mask to my face to hide my true self; I felt violated, but there was nothing I could do.
I put the mask to my face, stiffly, not comfortable with my surroundings nor the people within sight, though I'd seen them many times before.
By the end of the night, I'd learned that people are not always what you want to believe. That people will let you down and cut your heart open and not even see it.
I retreated from the masquerade to my own home, took off the mask and revealed my soul only to the mirror... because only the person in the mirror would understand the pain....

The Stage

On a stage of glorious gold I bowed
As I gaze out over the crowd,
I see few that really know me;
For the rest, it's lies they see.

I stop and wish with all my soul
The curtains would close not just a lull,
Alas, it is a no the fates do say.
Not an ending to this, my play.

I pray I do not move fates hand
Bringing an end to notes of the band.
But oh the peace of silence once the crowd dies down
And the curtain drops, the sounds it drowns.

It's all a dream, it's all a play,
Wait, no, it's not merely this they say.
But oh I wish that this were true
I'd take a bow, not end on cue.

Little Dragon

A timid little dragon perched upon the rocks
Longing for a day his heart feels no locks.
Uncountable thoughts his wings fold
Lighter dragons dance over fields of gold
He knows their hearts must be content and soft;
Actions so sure and smooth they float aloft.

Sabishii used to frolic with flocks of others,
But after many flights and still no true brothers
He lost heart and the ability of flight.
There's no replacement for family at night,
But he did long to share life's hue
With another dragon of his color blue.

Thus it was unexpected when a dragon midnight blue
Alighted eyes beckoning, he saw that hue.
Trust burst in, opening Sabishii's heart
His wings unfolded, opening t' life's art.
Now Sabishii soars thru sunsets brilliant pink
Beside a new brother as the sun winks.

Brightness of the Night Sky

I stand alone, I am a barren land,
You're a star somewhere in the sky.
You once descended and touched my heart
So closely it was a fusion of star and earth.
We danced for days on end smiling at the Sun,
But oh, what happened to us now?

You're back among the stars while I gaze from afar.
You're dancing and sparkling ah so fair,
Smiling and laughing skipping on the planets.
I'm left alone, quite forgotten by the star,
The land more barren, burned by the brightness of a star.

But perhaps the star is misunderstood.
You burn so brightly, I can see my way by your brightness.
Is it only to blind those less brilliant from the scars?
Is it so that you blend with the sea of stars?
It seems the Sun is starting to notice,
It's as if the Sun awaits the day you come close to Him,
Perhaps you were meant only to shine for Him,
I hope one day you do.
